Welcome to League Of Friends
of The Grimsby Hospitals
A voluntary organisation that is as vibrant and active today as it was when founded back in 1956.
The intervening years have seen this organisation accomplish a multitude of fund-raising activities and also receive legacies and donations from the public enabling them to provide support to the local Grimsby Hospitals.
The National Health Service can give a great deal but there are many amenities and comforts needed by the patients which it cannot provide.

Who are we?
Way back in 1956, an enthusiastic group of businessmen and women met at the old Hospital to form what is now known as the League of Friends of the Grimsby Hospitals. Plural, as in those days there were several hospitals serving the area.
The NHS was in its infancy and even then it was realised that government funds could not provide everything needed.
Funds provide even less now and the League continues its work, operating on a shoestring budget. League members are all volunteers, from all walks of life and age groups. Each bring varied skills, useful contacts and ideas and give their valuable times and services.
What do we do?
The League raises funds by organizing events such as Race Nights, Stalls in the Hospital concourse, Quiz Nights, Concerts, etc. We are also fortunate to receive Legacies and Donations in Lieu of Funeral Flowers, Birthday Gifts, etc.
In the early years of the League, we provided such things as Flower Vases, Water Jugs, Seats for visitors and Curtains for the large wards to provide privacy to patients. As time progressed such things as portable Radios and Televisions were supplied.
In recent times we are spending more and more money and more sophisticated and extremely expensive medical and surgical equipment that the NHS cannot afford to fund.
The supply of major pieces of equipment has enabled people to receive treatment as outpatients rather than having to stay in hospital. This has helped to shorten some waiting lists. We still, of course, are also happy to continue to supply goods and services that aid patient welfare and comfort.
The League is very careful not to impose its wishes on the hospital and community agencies but relies on Consultations, Staff Members, and agencies to ask for help, equipment, and amenities that they need in their department clinic, etc.
